The Skeletal Muscle Response to Energy Deficiency: A Life History Perspective

نویسندگان

چکیده

Energy is a finite resource that competitively distributed among the body’s systems and biological processes. During times of scarcity, energetic “trade-offs” may arise if less energy available than required to optimally sustain all systems. More immediately essential functions are predicted be prioritized, even this necessitates diversion away from – potential downregulation others. These concepts encompassed within life history theory, an evolutionary framework with considerable enhance understanding evolved response periods deficiency. Skeletal muscle particularly interesting tissue investigate perspective, given it one largest most energetically costly tissues body. It also highly plastic, responsive broad range stimuli, contributes many bodily functions, e.g., mechanical, regulatory storage. traded off against each other during deficiency, nature trade-off’s dependent on characteristics individual circumstances which deficit occurs. In review, we consider skeletal deficiency along how influenced by factors including sex, age, body composition, training nutritional status.

The Response of Skeletal Muscle-Expressed Neurotrophins to Acute Resistance Exercise in Male Wistar Rats

Background. BDNF and NT-4/5 have been proposed to be involved in the coordinated adaptations of the neuromuscular system to the elevated level of activity, but an activity-dependent expression of neurotrophins in skeletal muscle is not well established. Objectives. We, therefore, investigated the effect of one session of resistance exercise on mRNA expression of some neurotrophins in Slow and ...

Skeletal muscle response to tenotomy.

Tenotomy is a commonly encountered clinical entity, whether traumatic or iatrogenic. This article reviews the response of skeletal muscle to tenotomy. The changes are subdivided into molecular, architectural, and functional categories. Architectural disruption of the muscle includes myofiber disorganization, central core necrosis, Z-line streaming, fibrosis of fibers and Golgi tendon organs, ch...

The response of skeletal muscle to leptin.

There is now compelling evidence that, in addition to signaling to the central nervous system (CNS), leptin also exerts its metabolic effects acting directly on peripheral tissues. It has been demonstrated by in vivo and in vitro studies, that leptin increases glucose and fatty acid metabolism in skeletal muscle. These direct leptin effects are supported by the presence of the long form of the ...

Mitochondrial energy deficiency leads to hyperproliferation of skeletal muscle mitochondria and enhanced insulin sensitivity.

Diabetes is associated with impaired glucose metabolism in the presence of excess insulin. Glucose and fatty acids provide reducing equivalents to mitochondria to generate energy, and studies have reported mitochondrial dysfunction in type II diabetes patients. If mitochondrial dysfunction can cause diabetes, then we hypothesized that increased mitochondrial metabolism should render animals res...
